It is important to note that there are strict limits in place on weight and capacity allowances for airplanes, meaning it may require multiple shipments – either simultaneous or sequential – to make sure your goods reach their destination. Choosing other options such as sea freight might be more economical if time is less of a factor.

The types of goods that can be transported using air freight are restricted. These include dangerous or hazardous products such as fireworks and ammunition, but also include things like aerosols and other products containing compressed air. The difference in pressure levels between the ground and the sky can present a danger when transporting these goods, and countries have their own regulations on what can and cannot be transported via air. A good freight forwarding company like Allegro can navigate these regulations for you, choosing from a variety of available shipping services.

Most incoterms apply to air freight, but there are a few that do not. For the most part, these unapplicable terms are only used for sea freight. These include:

For the most part, this refers to any situation where your shipment needs to reach its destination as quickly as possible. Furthermore, small shipments of goods are ideal for air freight due to the limited space available on aircraft and the associated costs of express service.
